600,000+ jobs lost in the auto industry since 1980.
21,000 Delphi (GM) salaried retirees had their pensions illegally slashed in GM bankruptcy.
Well funded (86% in down market) pension plan was terminated, while underfunded union pensions received full bailouts.
$97 billion taxpayer bailout for union pensions in 2021—while Delphi retirees still receive nothing.
15 years and counting of fighting for justice in Washington.
Delphi, once a key auto supplier, was spun off from General Motors in 1999. During the 2009 auto industry bailout, GM and the U.S. Treasury's Auto Task Force orchestrated a deal where union workers’ pensions were rescued, but non-union salaried retirees were left behind.
This wasn’t just bad luck—it was a government-orchestrated injustice that picked winners and losers, favoring unions while betraying non-union workers.
Their fully funded pension was seized and taken over by the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC), leading to massive reductions in benefits.
Meanwhile, union-affiliated Delphi workers had their pensions “topped up” by GM under government control, leaving salaried retirees to bear all the losses.
The government later bailed out failing union-run pension funds with taxpayer money, while the Delphi salaried retirees were ignored.
Many retirees lost 30-70% of their expected pensions and near total loss in GM stock, leading to financial hardship for thousands of families.
This isn’t just about Delphi. This is about fair treatment for all American workers. If it happened to Delphi retirees, it could happen to others. The government should not be in the business of deciding which workers deserve to keep their pensions and which do not.
If we allow pensions to be arbitrarily slashed while others are saved, every American worker’s retirement is at risk.
✅ Full pension restoration for Delphi salaried retirees.
✅ Equal treatment of all pensions—no worker should be left behind.
✅ Stronger pension protections to prevent future injustices.
These events did not just impact employees. They impacted families. The DSRA has silently fought a long, hard battle and a good American cause. They need a little advocacy social media advocacy help from the next generation to secure their story ensuring that they are not needlessly thrown into political crosshairs of another unfulfilled promise.
